I think it is about time that watchdogs started to do something about all of the obesity and heart problems that are occurring due to people eating high volumes of saturated fat.
Eating too much fat is probably the number one main cause of Heart Disease; Over 459,000 Americans die of coronary heart disease every year. Here in the United Kingdom, 101,000 deaths annually are due to coronary heart disease, these are huge figures and are only set to get worse if something is not done. The stats below as reported by the BBC entail that:
The National Diet and Nutrition Survey 2003 found 90% of children, 88% of men and 83% of women eat too much saturated fat.
Women and children aged 5-10 should eat no more than 70g of fat per day and only 20g or less of this should be saturated fat.
Men should eat no more than 95g and only 30g should be saturated fat.
Too much fat in the diet raises cholesterol levels in the blood, which is a risk factor for
coronary heart disease, heart attacks, angina and stroke.
This is why the food agency will be cracking down on this type of over eating habits; they have created a hard hitting TV advert which basically consists of loading all of the fatty foods that we eat and placing it into a blender. This then gets poured down the drain and ultimately ends up blocking it. When the pipes then get opened you can see that the fat has clogged them all up. So if it can do that to a pipe what can it do your blood vessels?
All around I think that every country in the world needs to promote healthy living lifestyles a lot more. There are a few facts which you can perform to get your body into healthy shape. Firstly eating correctly and in moderation is a must, try to consumer fruit, vegetables, whole grains and beans. You should also choose low fat products such as fish and leaner meat.
Besides that you should try to regularly exercise to burn away anything fatty that you have eaten, you could try visiting the gym on a weekly basis or go jogging, if you have kids to look after then you could also try going swimming as a family. Looking after your health is a critical part of anyone's routine as you only live once.
